College students can currently get 4 months of ChatGPT Plus FREE, an $80 value, through an official OpenAI student offer. If you're eligible, this is worth checking out before the October 31, 2026 claim deadline.
OpenAI is offering eligible U.S. college students four free months of ChatGPT Plus. The offer is available to both full-time and part-time students enrolled at eligible U.S. degree-granting institutions, so it may be worth checking even if you're taking classes part time.
ChatGPT Plus can be useful for much more than answering quick questions. Students can use it for studying, creating study guides, working with notes and readings, preparing presentations, brainstorming projects, practicing interviews, creating quizzes, and organizing ideas. OpenAI also highlights tools such as ChatGPT Work, voice conversations, image creation, and other premium features as part of the student experience.
One nice feature of this promotion is that your ChatGPT account does not have to use your college email address. You can use your regular ChatGPT account and verify your student status through SheerID using your school information. Depending on your school, verification may involve enrollment records, school login, or supporting documentation.
Who's eligible?
- Current full-time or part-time college students
- Students enrolled at eligible U.S. degree-granting institutions
- Students who successfully complete the required SheerID verification
- Eligible students must claim the offer by October 31, 2026
If you're already paying for ChatGPT Plus, there's another helpful detail. OpenAI says eligible existing Plus subscribers can claim the offer as long as their subscription is billed directly by ChatGPT. Subscriptions billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play aren't supported for this promotion.
If you're starting a new Plus subscription, OpenAI says you'll need to add a payment method to activate the offer, but you won't be charged during the four free months. Keep in mind that this is a subscription promotion, so it's a good idea to review the terms and remember when the promotional period ends.
For students who already use AI for schoolwork, projects, studying, or career preparation, four months of Plus could be a useful way to try the premium features without paying the normal subscription price. Even if you're not sure whether you'll use it often, there's little downside to checking your eligibility while the offer is available.
