Amazon Prime FTC Settlement 2026 – Important Information for Prime Members
If you were enrolled in Amazon Prime in recent years, you may be eligible for compensation as part of a court-ordered settlement involving the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Amazon.com, Inc.
The FTC alleged that Amazon violated the Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act by enrolling some consumers in Prime without clear disclosures, proper consent, or easy cancellation options. Amazon has settled the case without admitting liability.
📌 About the Settlement
On September 25, 2025, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington approved a $2.5 billion settlement in the case:
Federal Trade Commission v. Amazon.com, Inc., Case No. 2:23-cv-00932-JHC.
Payments to eligible consumers are being issued in two groups:
- Automatic Payment Group
- Claims Process Payment Group
💳 Automatic Payment Group (No Action Required)
You may receive an automatic payment if all of the following apply:
- You are a U.S. consumer
- You signed up for Amazon Prime between June 23, 2019 and June 23, 2025
- You enrolled through a challenged Prime enrollment flow
- You used no more than three Prime benefits in any 12-month period during that timeframe
Eligible consumers in this group do not need to file a claim. Amazon is automatically issuing payments of up to $51 for qualifying Prime membership fees.
Automatic payments are being distributed within 90 days of the court order (by December 24, 2025).
📝 Claims Process Payment Group (Action Required)
If you did not receive an automatic payment, you may still be eligible to submit a claim.
The claims filing window opens on January 5, 2026. Eligible consumers will receive notice by email or postcard by early February.
You may qualify if:
- You are a U.S. consumer who enrolled in Amazon Prime
- You unintentionally enrolled in Prime through a challenged method or tried to cancel online but were unable to do so
- You used fewer than ten Prime benefits in any 12-month period
- You did not already receive an automatic payment
To submit a claim, eligible consumers will need to check a box confirming one of the following:
- Unintentional enrollment in Prime
- Difficulty canceling Prime through the online cancellation process
Approved claims may receive compensation of up to $51 for qualifying Prime membership fees.
⚠️ Important Notes
- This is a court-approved settlement, not a lawsuit you need to join
- You should only submit a claim through the official settlement notice or website
- Be cautious of unofficial emails or ads claiming guaranteed payments
We recommend monitoring your email and mail for official settlement communications if you believe you may be eligible.
